CHAPTER TWO: SCIENTIFIC PROCESSES IN BIOLOGY

Science is studied through a procedure that follows systematic processes which require the use of a variety of apparati and equipment. Skills or process that enable scientists to carry out scientific studies include; Observation, Measurement and Experimentation.

The following concepts will be covered in this chapter:

Common Biological apparati, equipment’s and other resources.

The use of sense organs to make correct observation (Basic skills in scientific study).

Steps for carrying out scientific studies (scientific methods).

Simple biological experiments.

COMMON BIOLOGY LABORATORY APPARATI, EQUIPMENT AND OTHER

The biology Laboratory is a special room or building designed for conducting biological experiments.

Qualities and facilities of a good biology laboratory

  1. Large door which open outwards.
  2. Adequate space for conducting experiments.
  3. Proper lighting.
  4. Good ventilation.
  5. Source of water.
  6. Source of heating.
  7. Storage room for keeping chemicals, models, models and apparatus
